The “Hamilton Hurricanes” is HGSA’s rec all star (8U) and travel program (10U and up). Founded in 1984, some of the Hamilton Hurricane teams compete under the Babe Ruth National Charter. Several of our teams compete in ASA and USSSA tournaments. Hurricane teams have won dozens of Babe Ruth district titles, 39 Babe Ruth state titles, 19 Babe Ruth regional titles, 1 Babe Ruth World Series title, 1 ASA title, and numerous other fastpitch tournament titles. Several of our teams also participate in USSSA Nationals in Salisbury, MD and won the USSSA New Jersey state titles for the 2019 10U team, 2020 12U, and the 2020 16U teams
HGSA currently fields an 8U, 10U, 12U, 14u and 16U Hurricane team with the potential for 18U. Tryouts for the 8U team are in late February. Tryouts for other age levels are in July and August prior to the playing season. For example, tryouts for the 2021 10U, 12U, and 16U Hurricanes would be in July of 2020. 8U players would be expected to commit from March through early August. 10U players and up would be expected to commit for the Fall season, winter workouts, and the Spring/Summer season.
The rec program is the foundation of HGSA, focusing on skill development, knowledge of the game, sportsmanship, physical exercise, having fun, character development, and being a member of a team. The Hurricane program focuses on all of these things, but within a more competitive environment.
To be eligible to tryout for a Hurricane team in age groups 12U & younger, a player must participate in the Hamilton Girls Softball Association rec program. In ages 14U & above, playing in the rec league is suggested but not required. However, in ages 14U & above, there are other financial obligations.
